2008 Summer Sunset Series
5K Trail Run/Walk |
 |
 |
|
This is a 5K loop laid out on well maintained single-track trails.
This year's course starts beside the parking lot, goes across the
boardwalk (1), Middle Giorgetti (4), Girogetti Loop to (5), Back
Stairs (14), Crusher Road (13), Lower Ledges (16), Tim's Vista (24),
Pond Road (27a), (27), Dewey Wood Road (30), Door Knob (34), (28),
Lonely Rock (28a), (25a) (25), Rembrendts Brush (20), Evergreen
Fall (18), Furlough (9), Escalator (1) and back arcoss the Boardwalk
to finish by the parking lot. Note: Intersection numbers are in
().
This is the Sunset Series' seventh season and it has grown in popularity
as people discover the races. For the first two years there were
only a handfull of trails to lay out the course.
In the last four years the Pine Hill Partnership has added nearly
ten miles of single-track trails providing many more options for
running. Each year the course changes to make it more interesting.
Due to the nature of the trails, the course is not exactly 5K. Usually
we try to go slightly over rather than under.

Pine
Hill Park affords a network of well maintained Single-Track
trails. |
|
|
The course is well marked with cones and arrows and there are plenty
of park trail signs to guide you back to the trail head should you
manage to stray off the course. Runners of all abilities are welcome.
We have people who try to sprint the whole way and folks that walk
most of the course. The atmosphere is very laid back and everyone
is there to get out and have a good time. Runners who do all three
races get a very fine T-Shirt.
At
the August race the season T-Shirt is unvailed. The shirts are a
work of art each year and have a map of the course on the back.
